I’ll be outfitting it with a CBN wheel. How much do I need to spend to to have unacceptable flex in the mechanism? Thanks

I bought the top Oregon one with hydraulic chain clamp.
Hardly use it. Think it was around £350 but can’t really remember

I got the portek ultra mk4 for my Milling chains.
Is way cheaper than some others
And all metal construction.
I'm happy with it, but not had it long.

Had my portek for 8 months and it's magic.

All my milling chains 3/8 LP and .404 go through it.  I find it easier to set up than my Granberg bar mounted. That still gets used to put a quick edge on in the woods.

From memory F R Jones  was cheapest delivered.

This is mainly for long chains. And CBN will make a world of difference as to how sharp they come out.

I hadn’t even looked for other abrasive wheels. Just bought more of the Oregon ones. Have you found cbn in the correct sizes ?
I tend to use it for really damaged chains where you’ve hit something nasty
The cbn wheels might introduce less heat when grinding out damage. You have to watch that like a hawk on a bad chain.

I keep meaning to weld up a proper permanent pillar For it to stand on its own in the workshop. At the moment I have it on a base that I just nip up in the engineers vice

Maybe I’ll pop down with it and you can have go to to see what you think of the Oregon ones and I can have a crack with the Sherpa. Think I’m going to order one but couldn’t get a demo before Christmas.
Bloody going up in price next year too. [emoji57]. Mind you as will I be [emoji23]

Yes, come and have a play with the loaders and also have a play at sharpening a drill bit on the big cbn bench grinder. You’ll see why CBN is the only feasible option for such an application as a chainsaw grinder. It puts a razor edge on in seconds, and with no heat. It’s like witchcraft!

6% price increase on Sherpa from January I was told 🙄
