Skid steer or not to skid steer?

Yep there was a slight minor issue with a soggy area of ground!!! Had to tow it out with the grinder!!!!

 

I think if i was using an articulating loader on that site i would of rolled it for sure. I have used a couple of Avants and they are great but the little boxer is perfect for 9/10 sites.

For me I couldnt get an articulating loader down the side of most houses to grind stumps and a site/yard loader is a bonus. splitting log for my dad pays the rent so that will speed up the rent payment. Im sure that I will rent it out to the local fencers with a posthole borer ect...

Blaisey, Post hole borer is good investment for a mini skid, we have augers up to 36", great for treeplanting etc. We even drill bases for mobile homes/classrooms etc. with it. Good additional income.

I have a 753 bobcat good for me, alot bigger tho, only thing that lets them down is the damage they do to the ground. Mine weighs 2.4 tonnes so big kit to take to site. I would consider something that articulates and easier to get in and out of.

Steve, i gave it about 30 secs of trying then hauled it out with the grinder! It was one of the carlton 7012 grinders so its didnt even notice it was there!!! Those grinders are awesome, again we destroyed the drive belts on that!!!!

I've hade a demo today from Cliff on the Boxer 532DX unfortunatly couldent run the stump grinder due to it being an old model with slightly different hydrolics. Exlent lifting height it will lift and tip into my Ifor williams trailer with high sides. It will lift 953kgs so nearly a ton. The tracks slide out from the body at the push or pull of a leaver. Ive put a vid on so u can see it stump grinding. I vid wont upload I try again latter

I have seen a very similar machine work on boxer 532. It was unimpressive TBH. There is so little of the horsepower getting to the cutting wheel it bogs down alot.

 

The Powered grinding heads like Ed sells look very good (though I have not seen one in person), im not sure if he still makes them or if anyone else does anything similar.

 

If that is a no go I dont think it would be that hard to mount a rayco head and engine to a bracket that clips on to the loader. You could then power the slew and height through the boxer hydraulics at tickover with a simple vale block.

That stump grinding head looks ok to me - I think it would depend on how much stump grinding you do though whether it is more cost effective to have a seperate machine.

 

If you have lots of attachments for one machine, when it breaks you could have to delay a lot of jobs / lose money.

 

IMO the Boxer / other Skid Steers come into their own when moving material and loading trailers etc.
