Great set of shots Bart, particularly like the arrow slit view.

 

Was wondering if the fung in the flutes on the Beech was possibly Ganoderma pfeifferi?

But not really sure from the shots.

Do you know if you get it on the site?

before i scrolled down i knew that beech was living with merripilus!

 

Ganoderma pfiefferi too by the looks, i have a beech local to me with the same dual decy and the butt and root flare is identical in form.

 

thats a really usefull puzzle piece for me, thanks for posting

could be, although they seem very distinctive ive not managed to id them yet. im going to go back and get some better pic's, thought of your dual decay thread when i saw it :001_smile:

Give the top surface a scratch when you go back, if you get yellow scrapings then they probably are Beeswax Bracket.
