I'm getting wary of these newer smaller engines. Bit like everything else in life, just because it can max out at X horse power doesn't mean it can do it all day everyday up hills and towing large loads etc.

The delivery guy stopped for a van chat when he dropped me off a parcel today as I was working on my transit. He said he just sold his 2.2 after 540,000 miles and he didn't have any issues with it bar the usual wear and tear. He got a 2.0 ecoboost transit to replace it as it's all he's ever had and swore by them and its gone through 2 engines in 18 months. He's now got a VW

It’s happening all over though isn’t it, just look at the chipper hp being downgraded. Many moons ago I used to have a fiesta st, that was a 2.0l engine now they use a smaller 1.5 I think it is but get even more power out of it. The older Isuzu was 3.0 and the new one 1.9, seems they are just squeezing the same or more power out of smaller lumps. I’m no engineer but surely that must have durability and longevity issues in the long term?

I wonder if the chipper downpower is all to do with this new plant emission limit stuff where all plant over 19kW has to have a DPF. No-one wants DPF's

You could be onto something  there Paddy 🙂

I make you right Paddy.

As @Mike Hill says ‘There’s no replacement for displacement’.

I'm buying a Forst ST6P because of the power issue and I wanted a sub 750. In the sub750 class it's a trade off of build quality vs engine and after using a petrol one I really liked it. I absolutely love the kubota diesels but being throttled like they are is so sad. I'm not Boujee enough to get a brand spankers chipper (buying a 2018 model with 300 hours on) but the future of the second hand market will be interesting! Like the trucks, small engines with low emissions pumping out big HP. They just can't take it 😔 A 2.0L ecoboost transit is a prime example
