Floating anchor points

How many of you use a floating anchor point off of your footlock access line? what set up do you use?

on the odd occassion ive done this i've tied an alpine butterfly in each leg of the footlock line and clipped a krab to each then run my Ddrt through this. this set up is retrieivable from the ground which is a big plus.

it was interesting at wales to see people footlocking with short prussiks, with their Ddrt set up on a pulley connected to the prussik read to work. all they had to do was a marlin spike when they had ascended to the point they needed to everything else was ready for work

I've used this setup (courtesy of Mark B) both in comps and in the big stuff at work. There's several different ways to achieve the same thing, which is basically not having to climb to set a high anchor point.

is the butterfly knot tied on a single leg(secured obviously)?

and do you footlock up with everything set up ready to go?

When i use that system i footlock up with just the sling on the footlock strop, and then clip my climbing system in when i'm ready for it. The biner with my hitch setup on it is clipped in to a caritool on my harness first, and then the biner with the pulley and pre-threaded drdt rope second, so they come off in the right order.

The backup biner in the footlocking line should be attached to both legs of the line. I use a marlin spike hitch.

So if I understand correctly you have to go back and take the marlinspike out of the footlock line before it can be retrieved from the tree?

yep....course it doesnt matter in competition AR........id probably go with something different for a work scenario where it needed to be retrieved from the ground
