Our first splitter was from Spaldings Groundscare - £500 and 14 ton split. Hydraulic. Used on either a tractor or off the hydraulics on our Defender 130.

We bought a Wallenstein petrol driven road towable about two years ago and can't fault it. Horizontal or vertical regularly use it to break up 24" diam 12" hardwood rounds or 15" diam with fourway. Superb quality. We tend to take the splitter to the tree and cart away the firewood rather than bring the tree to the splitter.
