Purchasing Climbing Gear Online

Hello - Good Afternoon

 

Where's the best online place to buy climbing gear for price, quality and support, etc.? I'm new to climbing but it's a hobby I'm planning to take up and hopefully a skill I can develop and use in the future for doing some areal tree work. I'm just researching and finding my way around the equipment and different techniques at the moment but it would be great, and hopefully maybe save time and money, if I could get most of the kit in one place.

Depends where you are in the country too, tricky at the moment but with things like boots, spikes, trousers, harnesses much better to try on so worth building a relationship with a nearer dealer if you can.

I really like gustharts, skyland, fr Jones and Sorbus. Tbh, I doubt you will be able to get it all at a good price from the same supplier. You are probably better buying kit from different sources as you will save a little cash. 

 

 Only thing I can recommend for certain is not to buy kit on ebay/second hand. If you eventually want to turn it into work your kit will need to be LOLER inspected and they won't inspect stuff that doesn't have receipts. You also don't know what's happened to it before you buy it. 

 

If you want to get into tree climbing then I suggest you take a course (CS38). It only covers climbing but if it's not something you've done before you can easily hurt yourself!

Hey - thanks a lot for the info guys. I've made a list up for FR Jones, they seem to have most things and were recommended a couple of times by you - plus, I'm in Hampshire so not that far from London if I need to visit the shop sometime. Thanks for the advice about buying second hand and difficulty getting it tested. I've been looking at a couple of climbing courses with Kingswood.

Good luck and have fun! Make sure you buy 2 ropes and get used to being tied in on two ropes at all time. Not just is it the proper standard now but if you mess something up the chances of falling are massively reduced!
