If you don't have a compressor and air line then hot  water and washing up liquid works well . As long as you split them , dunk them and use an old tooth brush to scrub them and they dry off quick if the water is hot . They look like new .

Sorry Andy, that water oil and dirt settles in the open areas and makes it look like the filter is clean but it is well and truly plugged and will make the AT run lean. The only real way of cleaning is to pass air through them after softening the crud with a spirit of some sort!

Well I do blow them through after as I do have an air line , but if you don't , its better than doing nothing . The tooth brush helps .

How the f do you clean the rest of the saw if you don’t have a compressor!

It should be illegal to own a saw without one.

Even a cheapo will do the job.

Yup, I've tried various options since moving out of my parents and leaving the compressor behind,  absolutely nothing else works. Now any chainsaw maintenance I have to go back to my folks to use the workshop there, a compressor will be one of the first purchases I make when I get my own workshop built in the garden!
