Is there a medium sized battery chainsaw yet?

I am wondering about replacing my Husqy 181 which is about 33 years old.  As it is only used at a sawmill we are never far from electricity and we only do a few cuts a day.  But sometimes we need to cut a large log - maybe four feet diameter.

Is there a battery saw out there yet which would be capable of handling a 24 inch bar?  I can't find one.

Maybe have a look for a hydraulic saw and powerpack, but they're likely very expensive.

Well I will probably stick to petrol power if nothing is available in the size I need.  Just don't really want to spend good money on a new petrol saw if more powerful saws are just round the corner.

Just get a used 372/441/similar if it's for occasional use. I think it'll be a while before we see something electric that can pull a 24" bar. We have a few of the little electric Stihl tophandles at work and they stall out just pollarding.

That looks absolutely lethal.

I have seen those chainsaws working (on Youtube that is) and they look very efficient.  Not versatile enough for my needs though thankfully!

Thanks for the recommendation.

There seem to be very few decent used saws for sale out there now.  For that matter there seems to be very little decent used kit out there of any kind.  I recently had to replace my little van, and it is sparse pickings right now.  Everybody used their bounceback loans to get new kit I think!

They do crop up from time to time, you just need to keep looking, and have a fair idea of what you're after.

There are some nice Husky 372s and a nice 576 on eBay at the moment, and a nice Stihl 460 and a 461.

I was very lucky when i bought my 572 used. I think i paid 670 and it was practically new.

I still have not replaced my old Husqy 181, and now my little Stihl has also failed.  I am really thinking I will get an electric one to replace them - the Stihl MSA300 has been recommended on Arbtalk previously - but at £1239 including battery and charger is a hell of an investment.

I could actually use a corded mains saw, but are any of these actually any good?  The Oregon CS1500 looks OK, but when you read a few reviews it is in fact a cheap Chinese machine.

Any recommendations for a saw with a reasonable size blade (18 inch at least) and enough power to handle decent size logs?  Bear in mind I operate a sawmill, so generally only make a few cuts a day!
