Many thanks. Did you google them or know the shop?

I assume the taper tap would be best? I need to clear/recut the first couple of threads, the rest seem to be ok. I assume/hope the end of the taper tap would follow some to the good threads?

I used to buy bits from them 20 years back. Yes the taper might be the best but for the fact it may follow the cross threaded line first.  Have you asked @aspenarb if any of his thread repairers are that size?

That tool looks like it could be tricky to use.... far easier just to use any other ' sharp ' 1.5 mm pitch tap as a comb.

Aside that it's a bit of a no brainer that every plant repairer will have this size of tap as it's a standard hydraulic hose size.

Cheap taps are often rubbish....

Time to update this thread. I picked up a short hex socket m30 plug that I could drive in from the back. It took a while but with care and then brute force it cleaned out the threads. However, the part still wouldn't thread onto the piston so I picked up a die from Tracy Tools (thanks again @openspaceman ). This removed a bit more material and now the digger is back together. I'm not sure if driving the bolt in first helped, but it did mean I could get the die in a few turns before I had to use force.
