I know what youre saying, but ive been given a hard time over this common name thing by the "hardcore" mycologists I am trying to break the habit!

 

It causes confusion due to there being often more than one name, for example as in the thread i have fommes included the common names, southern bracket, tinder fungus and horses hoof fungus, you start to get where i am coming from. I have to get my head round sticking to the latin!

 

But if thats what ze peoples want, then have it they shall my good man!

 

what about those that have no common name? latin is the language of science!

im not suggesting leaving the latin out,far from it. just think it would provide more of a resource if both the latin and common names were there

do you know what, I reckon i should set the example and stick to pure latin, it is the right way and I did promise i would "proffesionalise " my content!

 

I reckon both....after all you use the common name for the tree all of the time on here:confused1:
