A friend of mine owns and runs Chichester cattery . He is an ex Chi rugby 1st team player and now takes part in iron man events and triathlons . His wife recently passed away and is sorely missed . She was a physio that helped me from time to  time back in my Judo and Squash playing days . But to get to the point I see him out and about training for this and that on a regular basis . You could not meet a nicer bloke . BUT he owns the place and has staff . My cat used to stay there when he was alive .

Awww that’s sad ? poor man losing his wee soulmate. You should get another wee cat Stubby we all need a cuddle. That’s cool you did Judo ?? I do Kung fu because it’s quite peaceful but effective. Although I do love a good old scrap ?

I've friends up the road who took over the kennel/cattery, he used to be a head chef in a London restaurant so never saw his kids, running his own business with his wife was less stressful meant a lot more time seeing the family.

They shut down for a month every January, not many people using it and then they get to have a break. I think the virus has buggered their business though, they were selling fruit and veg for a while and I don't like to say where it will all end.

I hope they can recover from this awful pandemic ? I cannot imagine how awful it must be for business right now. A family run business is great if you do not get to see your children ?

Sam . Hi . I played Judo back in the 70s through to the late 80s . I got quite good playing competitive squash as well so had to give up the DoJo .  ( no good trying to go for a tight drop shot if your legs are all bruised up ! ) Allso was a 9  ( in the club rugby  )  The point I'm was trying to convey is if you are not gifted a premises and staff it could be frigging hard graft in as much as your life won't be your own .

Thankyou for all the replys. Its certainly given us food for thought. Basically my wife and I are both fed up with our jobs, we want to relocate and work together. We both love animals and don't go abroad, so we are looking at ways we can achieve this. Kennels is the idea we keep coming back to.

Harvey, are you talking about taking over a Kennel, or are you planning on starting from new?

We are thinking of taking one over, not starting from scratch. One of the attractions for us is that we will be buying a house, some land and an income all in one go. We are also thinking along the lines of small holdings etc.

I think wanting to spend more time with your wee family is admirable and I really hope you do find your wee dream. I am woefully unqualified to give any advice but I wanted to wish you the very best for the future x update this post if you find what you are looking for ? we all love a happy ending ?
