rope washing

how would be the best way to wash ropes? i know most people say they never need to bother, but doing some aerial rescue practice up at myerscough on monday and my rope was one of the ropes there for people to use, it was wet and muddy and my rope (which was a fairly clean looking blaze) is now stuffed full of mud and crap, and im wondering whats the best way to wash it?

Get a small log net,or such like and pop it in the washing machine following temperature guides for your rope.Dont spin it to dry.

Or in a bath of warm water and a splash of washing powder,and do it by hand.

hang it up to dry inside.Do give it a good rinse.

I used to use the machine when it got proper minging. But now if it really needs a wash, I just fill the bath about 6" deep with luke warm water, and milk the rope from one end to the next a few times, no need for washing detergent or anything, you will be suprised how dirty the water is when you are done!

 

Then just leave it to dry properly, dont skimp out on this bit, make sure its bone dry before it goes back in the bag cos it will absolutely reek if not. hope this helps

done mine yesterday! I put it into a pillow case (sneakely done whilst missus was out:laugh1:)and put on a cold wash in the washing machine with no soap (and the trays cleaned out), job done its now drying outta direct sunlight.

Just ask one of the instructors, they have a rope cleaner. It is a T shaped tap attatchment that has lots of small holes in that you run the rope through and the small holes blast the rope like a mini jet wash.

 

Works a treat and saves knackering the washing machine. If you do use a washing machine don't use detergent and make sure it is not your own!

just stick them in, 40'c normal wash.

i've done it quite a few times after the ropes have been caked in mud, moss, sap and genreal tree gunk. it comes out like new and fairly dry after the spin cycle.

get yerself a net rope bag (weaver do one) and some specialist cleaner such as the Beal version. less harmful than ordinary detergent.

i dont really wash my ropes but when i got a new rope i use a pillow case put the rope in that tie a not in the top put it in the washing machine dont spin like others said on a warm wash and let it dry, jobs a gooden

Granny's soap flakes (pure soap), from the supermarkets. Less than a pound per box, and it will last many years. A small handfull in the washing machine with the rope on a 30 degree wash. Come out like new.
