I was thinking tree fern but wondered if anyone had any better ideas?

Had to take down this Cherry last week.  I really wanted to keep the stem and cavity but owner wanted down to the ground.  He was out when we finished so I took a chance and decided to try and keep at least some of the stem.  Haven't settled up yet so I may still have to go back and take it down to ground but I'm really keen to try and encourage keeping it and maybe planting something cool in the cavity.

Any suggestions welcomed...  (I'm already expecting the usual suspects and their 'helpful' suggestions....  ? - you know who you are....)

A couple more to tick off then maybe we'll get some sense from someone....?
