Black poplar in trouble, I think.

Question

First picture looks pretty idyllic, a Black Poplar on the south side of the river Stour (with swans and ubiquitous Labrador).IMG_20200810_184456.thumb.jpg.b40eb86282d603c6b28a5e97ba75c903.jpg

The next two pictures show an alarming crack that has opened up between the rightmost trunk and the other three. The gaping crack is just a close up of the other one.IMG_20200810_184541.thumb.jpg.8476222d03d8fbc247b4399242372657.jpg

The bridge that you can see is hand made and the owner (and maker) does not want to have to redo it.

Is it as bad as it looks? Thank-you in advance.
