This is what I love about Tree Surgery

Conifers!! What a Shite day.

We did the job below today, the hedge was about 60ft long and was to be reduced (hey topped if you like) by twenty foot.

It is the hardest day I have had for a long while, aprt from the groundy dragging his feet, we were battling to get the stems over into the wind.

We had to scramble over a pile of drystone walling rubble, kept getting dust in my eyes (which stung like hell, why does conifer sting like buggery when it goes in your eyes?)

...and then we were feeding the chipper at eye level, stems don't look big but they were all around 6 inch.

I ended up backing the chipper over the edge to get a good feed angle.

Then when you get home you can't get the sap off your hands

I just love conifer, just what I got into tre surgery for (not). Had a good price in for it though, so not all bad.

Took away four and a half ton.

Looking at your photos took me back three years to a similar job, what a nightmare day that was! I was not on fire that morning, we had lost a day to winds, the slope was a bugger for getting the chipper in a decent position (we didn't have 4x4 then).

What a blur: one minute the deck was clear, the next, it was raining Conifer; my partner was climbing like a madman, felling them like dominos, stacking them up a neatly. I did not get a look in! The chipper was at the wrong end, how DID that happen? (that it really was a steep slope was no consolation)

I had torn a muscle in my left forearm about a month and a half beforehand, which seized up, the chipper then threw a wobbly and I so wanted to be doing something lovely!

We finished in time though, and a few days later all was forgotten.

But what a 'mare. :)

i've done so many hedges like that in ireland i forget what my rope in my bag is used for. spent 2 weeks and a half on one hedge once, we finally finished, only to start another hedging job afterwards. it's been almost 2 and a half years since i've been back cutting trees in ireland, and i'm back in 4 weeks. bet you its my first job.

Dont Know if this will load up but here's a pic of some we did a while back, right to the ground in this case. I know what you mean, these jobs are pretty unrewarding, loads of chip, scratched forearms, sap, and tons of dead leaves left underneath which you have to take away to leave a tidy site. We seem to get a lot of these jobs.
