Electric Gates Advice

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to install remote operated electric gate/gates on my drive.  Need either 1 x 10ft wooden gate or 2 x 5ft. I want to be able to unlock and ope/close remotely. Mains fed isn't really an option.

Any experience of mechanisms, makes and approx price to buy/install appreciated

Thx in advance

Craig

As always - you generally get what you pay for.

I would recommend dealing with a company who can supply every single component of the system you require.

If you are looking to stay put for many years and would like a quality trouble free concealed system - this is it:

Instal the correct system you will have 364 days a year opening plus a intercom you should get 20 openings on a rainy day. Gates need to be made for automation and I usually hang on a metal post to minimise the resistance on the hinges . You can’t have a magnetic lock. The intercom will have to be gsm so you can open the gate from wherever you have signal don’t use truck batteries use a single leisure battery don’t use inverters 230v gates are hard to make safe and use too much energy there is only one reliable manufacturer

Thx Dumper, I guess the gates would only need to average <10 cycles a day. I would prefer to use standard 5 bar wooden farm gates, either 2 x 7ft or a single 14'. Who/what is your recommended reliable manufacturer or system? The intercom and a PIN keyboard would be a bonus. The mag-lock is not a dealbreaker, I'm trying to stop couriers more than determined thieves, I got other options for the latter?. Are these systems a DIY project?

You would probably like the one we have just done Mr @Commando

This is a completely self contained unit ( Mick Dundee)with the photocells, keypad,  gate hinges, motor mounts, camera pole and everything else built in and concealed. Basically just dug it in and put the gate on with no further set up needed. All cables etc between posts run in the buried box section thats keeping the posts in line. One gate with two Faac rams, all electrics are 24v.

Got a deal on ten units :blushing:,  got Faac at the yard and there must be a hundred gate cycles a day , they have lasted about fifteen years and only just given up .

Thx Bob, that's some serious gates! Im hoping not to need to go to such extremes and just automate the existing gates?
