No genuinely appreciate what you are all saying. I am literally doing some tidying up in the gardens but like all good novices I have gone over the top and bought all the PPE. I don’t intend to push past my ability at all, it’s just for small jobs, I genuinely appreciate this is a dangerous bit of kit for skilled professionals and won’t take any risks

That comment above is a bit of an oxymoron though. :D;)

I know how much amusement it’ll give you pros watching a gardener in full PPE cutting down a few 4ft saplings but that’ll be me. I’ll be safe, thank you for your concern and I will definitely call the pros for the proper sawing jobs

Its those kinda jobs you tend to hear about folk hurting themselves on. Now's not the time to end up in the A&E either, go in with a gash, go out in with Covid-19? Im sure the nurses and Docs would be delighted to learn that of all times this is the one you chose to learn how to use a Chainsaw. :D  And if its only a few 4ft saplings why do you need a Chainsaw and full PPE when a hand saw could have tackled it in minutes?

Anyway, have fun. :)

Out of interest Andy, what qualifications do you have?

In which field?

I never stated he need hold a qualification though. But he, like anyone should certainly have some training before picking up a chainsaw for the first time. Especially when asking such questions as why is my brand new chainsaw leaking chain oil when running but stops when not running. :) Even one hours training with someone could mean the difference between life and death.

But to answer your question I do not hold any tickets for work with a chainsaw. My Oldman was a tree surgeon/climber and supposedly quite a good one too. Growing up taught me enough so as not to kill myself with a Saw. Training that has bode me well. :)

That makes a nice change to hear, many a life been saved by even the most basic set of saw trousers,
