Greenmech 150p inner air filter

Just servicing the chipper at 94 Hours, was last done at 50 hours. However I’ve noticed the inner air filter has parts of the filter mesh missing, any ideas as to what would cause this and has all the crap gone into the engine? Genuine filter purchased from a Greenmech dealer.

That looks piss poor. Raise the issue in writing with your dealer ASAP so it's on record.

Realistically it's unlikely to have done any damage. Soft filter medium will have burnt up and as you've discovered the issue early on (and outer filter is in place?) there's not been any chance for abrasive dust to enter the engine for a prolonged perios and cause wear.

Yes outer filter is in place and no damage to that one.

I have seen a lot worse on filters before now - you should see the filtration on my Stihl 090 - non existent compared with the saws today! I wouldn't worry over much but you did the right thing in checking it out.

Cheers Pete ?

That’s on a par with Cautrac telling me a cartridge oil filter is washable. Unbelievable.

Don’t listen to the muppets above shaun.  ID the engine and get a decent replacement filter. Then invoice them for it.

Also check that there are no restrictions in airflow to the filter box. To suck the medium out of a filter means a shitty filter or the engine struggling to draw enough air.

Thanks for your comments Doobin. With only some 38 years around timber machinery, I wouldn't call myself an expert but, I would like to think that I'm no muppet either! Speaking as someone who has only had some 20 years working for GreenMech, I can confirm that the engineering  acceptance has always been signed off by all of the engine suppliers that we have used and the filtration is something that is included in the testing.
