Funfact: the Jerusalem refers not to the Jewish city or indeed its people, but a butterflisation of "girasole" or "turn to the sun", given their little sunflower-like blooms.

Sunflower artichokes. Sunchokes.

I suppose so, it's definitely swapped hands a few times, but I think it can safely be said to have been founded by the people of David (or is it Judah? Which of the sons was supposed to have been the head honcho of all the tribes? Or am I misremembering the whole show?).

 

I wonder what the Jews or the Arabs or anyone else down there does with their artichokes... they'd probably puree well with garlic, lemon, and tahini, obviously...
