Going to see an big Ash the morn.

Away to have a look at a large Ash Log the morn. Supposedly 6-7 foot diameter and 13 foot long. The guy who's tree it was needs it gone as its far to big for him to deal with. He has a Logosol M7 so knows a little about Milling and Id guess knows its diameter. 

 

He just wants a dry/dryish slab in exchange and I can mill it on site if I prefer.  

 

If he's accurate with the diameter Im not sure how I'll mill it? Ive only a 42" Alaskan and my Bandsaw that can take a 30" Log. Potentially I could rough cut it into quarters with my 36" Bar and 088 then get it on the Mill? 

 

He sent me this pic of the stuff he's already clogged up, so it looks fairly clean too.

Not sure what I'll make with it? Really depends on how I end up Milling it I guess?

IF... it is a 6 foot diameter monster,
Mill it whole.
Go buy an 80" panther mill and bar.
4"-6" thick slabs.
Worth a kings ransom when dry.

He'd have ringed the lot up if he could have.  

 

Id hate to think what a 80" Bar, Mill and a few Chains cost. ?

So I’ve just had a look at the Ash. It’s still standing but is a whopper! 9’ high, 5.5’ x 4.5’ wide. Must be about 4t in it.

The rot pocket is quite small and does not seem to go anywhere.

Also some pics of the logs he’s already cut up.



But as it’s not dropped I’m not sure how to go about that? So any advice on how to safely get it on the deck would be greatly appreciated.
