Brother and sister from Jamaica. The trip was worth it.  A 2020 edit of a photo taken several years ago. The sister is a wedding photographer back in Jamaica, but loves trees.

I was reading a book recently about cloning trees. They want to clone the biggest redwoods that ever existed. They’ve all been felled but the stumps regrow, which is incredible in itself. The biggest stump they found was 65’ across! Inconceivable to me, even having been to the groves.

I've met the cloning clan and am familiar with their stuff.  But the reality of redwoods is that growers could get bigger and taller trees from seed. The largest existing are not superior, merely just old and big.

Yeah I agree. It’s a bit of a punt to say that big trees are about their genes. It’s more likely luck due to their location where that seed fell many years ago.
Good luck them though, can’t moan too much about someone wanting to plant trees.

Revisiting a favorite redwood found a few years ago. Fog and rain were forecast for today, so I drove to the coast for some hiking and mild bushwhacking.
