Down here most people wait until you turn up to do their job then bring it out when your chipping up! I started telling them i would take a donation but I couldn't believe the amount of people who said they would take it down the tip them selves or drag it up the garden. It really annoys me the crap people bring out for you to chip when your chipping up!

i NEVER do anything for anyone with out some kind of gesture if they ask me for something first. i will help anyone, most good folk dont want anything for nothing anyway, i usually say swap it for a coffee, a bit of a joke. BUT if they come out with the YOU THERE attitude there is no chance i will do it, i have done it for years and folk will slam a door in your face after the gesture or ignore you the next day, but i still bump into guys in the pub(not often in one) that will walk up to me for a pint becasue i helped them out one day, it really makes it worth while, i had a guy come up to me last year and give my we lad £20, i gave him work years ago and got him a job, he was a avionix engineer and had been laid off, he asked me for a labouring job, i got him work with my mate, he was a machine, built like arnie, he could carry a 3x2 slab one in each hand, honestly. he was a force of energy like you have never met. Any hoo, he got a new job and i never saw him again, i think he relocated, but the second he saw me he came running up and thanked me, he wouldnt take no for an answer, and he is a very persuasive guy. Dont let the bad ones get you down:sneaky2::thumbup:

What gets me is how people go from overly nice to down right nasty in the instant they dont get the extras. Had a argument with one guy because I woldnt chip his kids old bunk bed once, oh and the guy that wanted to put his fridge freezer on the chip and me take it down the tip.

we do it for free over a couple of weekends at 2 villages/towns the same size as largs, the local enviromental/green group advertise it-2/3locations around the village between specified times, people bring their trees, and if they want chip, we'll fill up their bags for them

Like the idea of chipping x-mas trees for charity. Yes it is recycling, but I don't think it can be called environmentally friendly. It would be better for the environment if everyone left their tree in their garden to rot. I have a chipper and use it a lot, for convienience, not because it's 'green'.

Think of all the fumes that are produced, together with the manufacture of oils, petrol/diesel, bearings, tyres, filters etc. All this has eventually to be disposed of. Then you have to get the chipper to the trees, using your vehicle.

I know it's slightly off topic and I'm as guilty as anyone else. I also know that noboby on the thread has called it 'environmentally friendly', but felt I had to say it
