Slippery wooden bridge- suggestions?

We use Weldmesh at work to cover all our wooden structures (i.e. bridges, boardwalks etc). It is similar to chicken wire by a lot heavier duty and will give greater grip.

So how do I stand if I do nothing and there is an accident?

 

Obviously insurance is in place, but just wondering!

 

I'm no expert, you need to seek professional advice.

 

I know if you do improvements however well intended. It may be you who gets sued. Speak to the local council hopefully they will help.

 

We have some styles that need replacing but I wouldn't touch them. It's a crazy world this sue culture.

chicken wire and horses hoofs, not a good combo. Our horsy owners are usually married to lawyers:biggrin:

We did a bunch of wooden bridges for a country park so horse + riders would not slip, used galvanised expamesh, came in 6' x 3' sheets

 

I had some left over, I will see if I can locate them tommorow if you are intrested.

Given the horsey involvement chicken wire may not last long. I don't know what your budget situation is but could some heavy duty plastic sheets be fixed to the planks and painted with acrylic bed liner (e.g. Protectakote) or similar? That's textured paint used for lining pickup beds instead of plastic trays.

Thanks Darren. Yes I will speak to them, your advice is much appreciated. Who knows, maybe they will foot the bill (ha!)

 

Sadly I have to cross this bridge as well as the general public and so not touching it is not an option. I cross it on foot and on horse and I don't fancy either landing on my arse or a horse I'm riding landing on its arse- they aren't light creatures!
