I would like to ask for some views, comments on the Tanaka 7201, 72.2cc chainsaw. I bought one last week brand new with a 24" Tanaka guide bar but asked the dealer to rather fit me a 20" Oregon guide bar seeing that the 24" bar made the machine "tip" forward due to it'weight. I have only started it 4-times (it is loud!) but have not used it to cut anything. What can I expect from this machine over the long run?

I have a Homelite 16".. I think it is a 36cc. Now about 15 years old and running strong. The brake on it is broken so i don't feel safe using it and getting spares for it is a nightmare. I feel comfortable using saws. I just have a huge amount of respect for them.

I've had a number of Tanaka saws, this model I've not seen anywhere in the UK - where did you get it? You're getting first or second pull Jap reliability, and if its a 70cc a fair amount of grunt suitable for larger diameter timber.

Thanks @Archerforestry. I stay in South Africa and bought it from Dennis Mowers in Pretoria. They stock a wide range of Tanaka products at very good prices hence me going for this machine and not a smaller Stihl

Ah that explains it, i did see an ad online from SA, price was six thousand Rand-odd, is that roughly what you paid? Should be a belting saw, you don't get the larger models over here. Only thing is spares tend to be relatively pricey

Thank you so far for your input on my question all! Really appreciated! @Archerforestry the machine cost me R4025.

Just over 212 Pounds??

Last i saw was also over six thousand Rand so I jumped on it when I saw it at that price!

Can't find much info about it online apart from one place in Zambia selling it

Yep, that is the one!

BTW... I noticed that this machine does not have the adjustment protectors or "special tool" adjustment screws. They are there like in the olden days,  in the open to adjust! Methinks it might be due to the fact that Europe and USA have much more strict emmissions laws????
