I wonder too. The simpler the better I reckon. If you live rural and have loads of wood, efficiency doesn't matter as much.

If it smoked regardless, personally i would remove the baffle and either cut a inch or two off or replace with a smaller piece if metal and see if this makes a difference.

Have you fitted a new cowl?

I thought he swept the flu and it all works now ?
