Cant quote myself, but many/most rate the earlier 460/461’s better than the 462 ??? Do you differ in experience/opinion?
Was talking to a lad today who has one at work. He reckons the 462 is the best saw in that range by a long way.. felt bad handing him a battered old 390 for the day!

My 2p would be agree 261, 462 but only put a 16" bar on the 261, that's enough for it in my opinion and if the timber is getting to 18" then you will be reaching for the 462.

I'd have a 150T instead of the 661 as well, but obviously depends where you are and what you cut.

Out of the two saws I’ve only used the 461 and have found that to to be a cracking saw as well. I would have got the 461 but the 462 came out so I thought I’d go for that instead and I haven’t been disappointed by it. The weight difference is quite noticeable although the bar is 5 inches shorter than what I’ve used on the 461

Just ported a 1996 Stihl 044, had a broken clutch, the drum was getting there and an air leak from the flywheel seal BUT.....it is 23 years old. These parts were most likely the original ones so not a bad list really.

The point - most modern machines will probably last 2-5 years but I guess are not an option now:(

You manage to port it using the original pot & piston?
