Hello,

I have recently moved into a new house and it has a lovely little cobnut tree in the garden but it seems to have a problem, the bottom leaves are fine but at the top there all almost wilted but not to the extent of being dried out and the branches for the leaves seem almost curled, I have attached some pictures if anyone has any suggestions what could be wrong with it please? It has started growing nuts, very very small so I’m hoping it’s nothing serious.

its well watered etc, any help would be great full :) thanks

It looks like a corkscrew hazel (aka twisted hazel), possibly Corylus avellana 'Contorta'.

They grow twisted branches and the leaves often look contorted as well, so your plant is growing as intended.

It might have aphids if you look under the leaves but if you google "corkscrew hazel leaves" you'll see similar examples.

I hadn't considered that the growth form was a natural sport, not being familiar with corkscrew hazel.

It would still be interesting to know why the leaves at the top of the shrub are curling.

It's all part of being 'contorta' Andrew; it's what they do.  Assuming that is that the OP has mistaken natural form for a malaise.
