The place where I worked for 20years had their spring condemned because of heavy metal contamination from  a car park up the hill (which had cars burned out on it) and we had to lay a water main in.

Most of the ones I sample are on apartment blocks where mains water comes into a break tank, then forwarded on using booster pumps. They are sampled annually, most, not all, break tanks have a sample point on the them. 2, 1 litres bottles filled from the tank and tested for Ecoli, Legionella, and coliforms.

 

I also do some borehole sampling, but not a lot.
