Hello all!

So i have been reading through a lot of the posts (some of you guys make me howl with laughter) and I've become very interested in the arb world.

Currently i work selling parts for machinery and while finding bits out about saws etc I've come across here and i enjoy reading what you guys say and do. You all do a top job may i add. Always wanted to get into the world of arb but haven't ever had the opportunity.

So what would you guys say is the best way to start off? Gain experience etc i know im not going to be whipping a saw around by day 2 lol but I'd just like some advice in all fairness. Id be happy being a dogs body just to see how it all happens etc.

Hello Neoa31,welcome to arbtalk mate. You've actually kinda answerd your own question with the dogs body thing.

Pick up the phone to local arb firms and offer your services. From what ive read and my own experience is hard working, keen brash draggers are difficult to come by.

Dont be too concerned about getting your tickets just yet,get some basic experience, see if you like the work and take it from there.

Hope it works out well for you and again welcome to the forum, there are some nutters but most are just plain mental....

Me and stubby are  the only normal ones...even bullmans a bit radio rental

Hello Mate,

I’m sure you’ll get lots of useful advice on here, find yourself an established local Arb firm with a good reputation and ask them if they need any help dragging brash etc. in return for learning/experience. They will hopefully find you something and even bung you some dosh if you put a shift in [emoji106]
Good luck
Cheers

Get a chainsaw crosscutting course done, do a first aid course, have a driving license and a good pair of boots (If you don't already have them).
Scout about for decent firms, I'd probably go for smaller outfits initially while I was getting a feel for the job.
Graft when you get to work. If you're unsure about anything then ask.
Buy a decent tree ID book and consider doing a course in arboriculture part time around your new found profession.
Don't sell yourself short.
Good luck.

Thanks guys for the advice! Im going to look today at company's near me and look at getting a ID book. I have used chainsaws before i cut down a ash years ago at a friends field but thats as far as my experience goes. Will be looking into a few courses too as it will help my cause. Im based in Worcestershire but im from Gloucestershire and travel down there every weekend.
