Idigbo v. Spruce cladding

Hi, my local timber merchant has quoted me to mill some 9mm thick 95mm wide PTGVG cladding out of Idigbo timber. It works out about 50% dearer than off the shelf DIY superstore spruce T&G V Groove same size.

I'm drawn to the Idigbo timber as it has less knots and looks nicer. ........ BUT!......

I don't know much about it (Idigbo), Google says it's moderately heavy and not structural strong which is not really a problem <it's to be fitted in a motorhome as a ceiling (roof lining).>

Any thoughts have I missed something important?

depends what properties you are looking for out of the timber?

 

if it is merely decorative then go for a different timber in my opinion.

 

clear yellow poplar is nice or southern yellow pine also but it's down to you in the end.

Thanks... No,  you're  right it's purely decorative.

I'm trying to find a stable wood ... nice grain.... but with very few knots...

Do you know if these two pine woods are readily available at a reasonable price?

I have made external windows and doors plus a staircase in Idigbo. All have been fine. it is fairly soft by hardwood standards but quite a durable external timber. Think it's high in tannins so will react with steel fixing causing staining. It's the most stable wood I have ever used.

Hi they make windows out of it a lot it’s very durable outside , nice colour for a roof when polished , nice diamond pattern would be cool , show us some pics when done
