- all of the caps I have found state ' not for alloy oil tank ' .

Is this because it seals with a washer on the face rather than an O ring on the edge?

I have one but I'm not sure which saw, can you measure the diameter? The washer is a bit perished.

Depends on the age of the saw, the very early 61 had a small breather cap part no 501564101, this also fitted the early 162, this cap is no longer available, the later cap 501626601 ( black) is far bigger, 501626602 is the same cap in grey, all 61s had an alloy crankcase.

Thanks to all  for prompt postings offering info - appreciated.

to : Openspaceman ( thanks very much for image etc you provided )  - yes - it does seal on the face ( there is a narrow machined band on the tank body where the seal sits)  - the dia is 1"  /  25 mm give or take a fraction .  Cheers.

Okay then what I have must be a fuel cap for a 162 or 280 as it measure 36mm across the outer diameter.
