He has already built it . I would have suggested Marine Ply if it has to be ply . Otherwise Stoke board .

give it a couple of coats of floor paint that should keep it ok for a while plywood aint what it used to be we now use birch ply instead of the hardwood exterior grade it is the only one which will stand any weather these days. Made some stable doors with it about 6 years ago for my cousins livery yard still going strong
