true enough, but a carbs setting is specific to what bar and chain combo it was tuned to...

a saw tuned to perfection with a 36" bar will be revving faster if its then setup with a 15" bar (as the saw is fighting less friction and mass).

 

 

check your saws with a tach if changing the bar length radically... heck, check the tune of your saws regularly anyway, plug colour at the very least... they'll thank you for it

Yes I didn't describe it clearly. The saw is rpm tuned with a bar and chain fitted thus remove the latter and it will turn faster than the manufacturer recommended maximum rpm. For instance, take a tacho and hold it over the top cover of say my 036 fitted with 16" bar. Should "4-stroke" slightly at 13,500 rpm and be set there. I have never retuned the saw for different bar lengths tho perhaps one should...

who sells tachoes for saws and are some better than others? any ideas of prices i would expect to pay.

would changing a big saw like an 088 to a small bar under stihls recomended cause us any issues re PPE should an accident happen???????????
