Hi just a quick question what's the crack with working within ancient woodland? Work required is roadside so just on the boundary. Only the recoppicing of some hazels done countless times before.

Cheers in advance

Same as any other types of woodland, as long as you have a felling licence if it is needed then that would be the only legislative restriction. I guess best practice would be to ensure that the works doesn't have any negative effect on ant features of the ancient woodland, for example, vehicles causing erosion to ancient wood-banks on the boundary of the wood, or fuel spills polluting the soils.

Re coppicing on a boundary may not need a felling license due to trunk diameters , I would have a word with yr TO and any eco-reperesentatives involved in that wood . K

exemption

if coppice (ie. managed by cutting to promote multi-stemmed growth arising at

or near ground level) or underwood, have a diameter of 15 centimetres or less.
