I'd say extra tickets like plant/heavy machinery. It's a nice backup for when your body has had enough as I imagine the physical demands of the Army take their tole.

Hello - just wanted to clear up a bit of the confusion surrounding Kingswood / TreeHouse Training name.

 

Richard retired last December.  Kingswood is now run as a collective by Tony Lucas, Michele Holmes, Jim Chatton in Sevenoaks, Kent and Andy Green in Surrey.  All the same trainers/office staff/sites etc.  

 

We have a new Barn in Sevenoaks, just off the A21 and still offer all of the same courses, including 4-week combination start up course, along with some exciting new courses: PTI, BTI +F, UA, PA and First Aid (EFAW & +F).

 

We apologise for any confusion caused regarding the TreeHouse name (purely legal reasons), but we are one in the same.  Kingswood / TreeHouse.

Best of luck, but I don't think you'll need it! Having a guy that can be relied upon to be effective under pressure (catastrophic injury scenario) will be a major selling point to most serious tree crews. This point has come up over and over again, where you have a guy on site with the aerial rescue ticket but untested in a real world situation, and, while possible to drill rescues, impossible to simulate the stress. Big plus for you there. I'll just recommend what I always do, and say buy the PDF of Fundamental Of Basic Tree Work by Bereneck, 400 plages of real world experience for 17 odd £  https://www.educatedclimber.com/beranek-fundamentals/   Best money you'll ever spend.

Hi, hope you’re all well. 

 

Firstly, sincere apologies if this is posted in the wrong place!

 

My name is Jack I am currently serving in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards. I have completed 8 years of exemplary military service, having so far reached the rank of Corporal. My primary role being that of an infantryman *wheey*.  I have served abroad on numerous occasions, including a tour of Afghanistan.

 

My secondary employment role is that of gymnasium 2i/c. Developing & implementing the PT programme in order to keep the battalion operationally effective. 

 

My wife and I reside in Hythe, Kent and have recently had our first baby. As you can imagine military life is not particularly compatible for a young family and so I am looking for employment within your sector! 

 

What I don’t have in experience in arboriculture I most certainly make up for in work ethic, discipline & willingness to learn new skills. I am a physically and mentally robust individual who has proven experience of working in dangerous and pressurized environments.

 

As part of resettlement and transition to civilian life, the Army contribute a substantial amount towards specific courses for new careers. I feel I could have a lot to offer and this could be something for you to note if you or somebody you know are looking to hire. 

 

I hold a full UK driving license (B, D, D+1) and although not directly specific to the job, I am a qualified rock climbing instructor (RCI).

IME (most) military people make very good Arb people. It’s the obvious work ethic and discipline along with the ability to keep the eyes/ears open and mouth shut in order to absorb information quickly.

Made the same transition last year and know of many more who've also successfully made the move. Basic courses: crosscut and maint, felling up to 380mm. Climbing and aerial rescue, unless focused on forestry only, and C+E would also make you a good option for an employer.
