Converting 4x4 pick up to a tipper

As the title suggests I’m looking into converting my ford ranger extra cab into a tipper.

I’ve recently looked at selling the truck I have and getting a new hilux tipper but at nearly 30k with the vat, I thought I just as well look into converting my one.

Has anyone done similar with a pick up and what are the associated costs.

Thanks.

Realistically, if you're doing it yourself and dependent on what materials you use I'd probably say you'll be looking somewhere in the region of £1500-£2000 for all materials to include steel sub frame, floor and uprights, aluminium plank sides, tipper ram and pump and lights etc. There rest is just time to fabricate. Not a difficult task provided you're happy measuring, cutting and welding/bolting.

I had mine done by a company but I'll do it my self next time as there's not really a lot to it provided your measurements are right and you can weld

Theres a thread titled “arbtalkers arbtrucks”
Mr Mark Wileman is currently doing his single cab ranger, theres a few pics on there aswell, or just PM him. Be sure to ask him about towbar heights tho, they can cause issues emoji106.png

Thanks I’ll have a look on there.

To be honest I don’t think I’d have the skill/patience to attempt it myself, so I’ll be looking at getting a company to build it for me. If you don’t mind me asking how much did the company charge you?

Hi mate,

Yeah it's pretty simple, I'm no mastermind with a welder. I spent about £1000-1200 converting mine, but I only have a wooden body as aluminum would whack another £1500 to that budget.

I spent the most headscratching trying to figure out how to mount the ram, try and get a ram with the mounting brackets from it's host vehicle, will make your life a lot easier!

That looks well mate, it’s the sort of thing I’m after. Did you have to move the fuel tank or lines as my fuel cap is on the tub that would have to be removed It’s a 62 plate.  Did you strengthen the chassis or just bolted it on as such.

Thanks for the reply

If you can find an ali planked transit/shepra tipper body they can be disassembled very easily and trimmed down to size. Normally about £300-£500 complete with all the tipping gear and a weekends work to fit.
