It doesn't matter what the pated weight of the trailer is, provided that the actual weight doesn't exceed the maximum allowable towed weight for the vehicle.

 

Nearly 7 pages of red herrings and piffle later we still have the same conclusion.

The trailer was plated at 2000Kg but laden weighed less than 750Kg. Didn't matter. The Officer said it was what I could tow, not what I was towing.

The application of the regs changed around then. Whilst the law was the same the legal interpretation was different than it is now. That's how the Ifor William memo came about.

 

Lots if farmers got nicked with the then new pickups that had lower tow limits.
