Drowned Chainsaw

Today my saw took a swim in the river,managed to find it after about half hour, 6ft deep,anyone else done this and what was the outcome for the saw,i.m guessing scrap.Gonna strip it and have a look but not holding out much hope

Chances are it will be ok. I would empty the fuel l tank, pull the spark plug out and pull it over while the saw is upside down, slowly at first then a fair bit to get rid of the water. Fuel it up and try to start it. The sooner the better to get rid of water and coat the bearings etc in oil.

 

Had a few saws do this over the years and never had any long term problems.

take off the spark plug and hang it upside down to drain any remaining water over a few days..  keep it in a warm dry place as well..  I can't see why it wouldn't work again if its all dry and you've changed the fluids...

No not running

I've drowned two a 353 and a 346.  353 dried out and fine, 346 needed a new pot and piston.  Both were running when they went for their swim.  Have dunked a couple when they've been switched off, dried out and no problems.

Thanks for replying everyone had plug out and got as much water out as poss and left it upside down now to dry

I wouldn't worry about letting it dry. Get some fresh fuel in it and get it going to lubricate everything.

Well took your advice Al and fueled her up,3pulls and away she went runs as good as ever,thanks everyone much appreciated
