Tree identification

Question

Posted

Hi, we need help identifying a tree near our property as it could affect the foundations for building work we are planning. I've taken some pics, I'd be really grateful if anyone can help identify the tree, what do you think it is? Thanks. Adam

One way to tell if it's Turkish hazel, which I suspect it is.
It should have these on the ground under neath and on upper branches.

It's most definitely a hazel.

Structural engineers are for structures. Arboriculturalists are for trees.

If you have highly shrinkable clay soil, you might want to consider a root barrier of sorts. If your soil is less shrinkable, you could probably plant an elm next to your front door and not have a worry.

As said, you should get a consultant in and take it from there.
