Mushrooms

I turn some quite large garden mushrooms on my VB36 lathe, can someone give me a quick sequence of carving a simple one with a chainsaw, seems like a fairly simple project to have a try at?

I have always found the mushroom way too flopperty to be able to turn them or anything else for that matter . I just eat them .

Your not helping much... Lol just fancy a go with one of my saws as have some logs which are too big to easily get on the lathe.......

Best to do them on the stump - safer and more control . You can do them set on a couple of bearers, but more chance of sawing yr foot ! I  mark the frill line of the mushroom head n just work away from that -don't be suprised if you end up with a nice looking dildo :P K

Bore cut the top n just smooth the stem out - it will need a power sand for a good finish n veg oil to stop it drying out too fast K

Ive done a very rough one [emoji23] Log roughly knee height. Round the edges off one end then, Cut round the log so far through to create the shroom. Place round edge down and cut downward to create the stalk meeting up with the round cut leaving a sort of hash pattern and remove all but the middle square. That probably makes no sense but worth a go! Use a 150 or something for the cutting and remember you can always take more off but can't put it back on!

Might be easier-safer to use a much longer log , on two bearers ( then cut stalk/base off ) - I found a stiff resin sanding disc in an angle grinder finishes them off nicely K
