Swing Cheek Re-direct negative forces

Can a Swing cheek pulley be used in this setup ? Currently taking down a large multi stem Norway Maple and need to stop the swing as it’s surrounding by static homes.

 

An x-ring would be just what I would need but sadly haven’t got one to hand so trying to make do. I understand swing cheek pulleys weren’t designed to take negative force/blocking but is it okay in this situation as it’s used to more to eliminate the swing and impact block will take most the weight.

Hmmm....if the swing cheek pulley is up to it yeah and the sections would have to run to minimise the impact on the pulley.

Ive used that set up but with a big dan rigging biner instead of your swing cheek  pulley.

Why not just have the impact block on the leader your sectioning down?

I know its a ball ache moving the rigging down with each section but time wise its minimal really

Use them quite a bit this way, just don't go excessively big

id swap them to the way you have them in the diagram, as you will struggle to get a snug fit under the cut with a tape sling, then youll end up with a bit of a drop and that can start to rag up the edges of the swing cheeck pulley. it will work your way  if you keep the pieces sensible, but i think it will be smoother with the pulleys swapped. check out the cow hitch for the dead eye sling, much easier than a timber hitch.

Swing cheek should be fine. Isc make a 70kn one, which should be good for negative rigging 350kg pieces.

 

I'd forget the tape sling though, I've seen them break far too easy. A dead eye or old bit of climbing line would be more appropriate.

 In that situation though I've used an old bull line wrapped round the stem below the cut them tied to the piece.

 

Natural friction, it works and doesn't have to be pretty.

I’ve got some old line lying around I’ll cut a few metres. Do you use a Bowline for the eye then cow hitch as normal ? Won’t be to much stress on the knot ? (Obviously not rigging big lumps)

Any suitable knot to terminate to the carabiner. Bowline, fisherman etc.

 

Timber hitch or cow hitch to attach to the tree.

 

Its not your primary rigging point. It shouldn't be taking the majority of the force. The earlier into the swing you catch it, the less force you apply to the system.
