Honda GXV120 fuel leak from carb

Hi,

Honda GXV120 engine

There is a small fuel leak from the carb, with the fuel tap on, and the engine either on or off

I've had the float valve off a good few times trying to clean it - no obvious signs of dirt though.

The float looks ok - no pinhole or fuel inside weighing it down

With the bowl off, you can push the float right up by hand and the fuel stops fine

Looking for any suggestions of the next step? Replace float and needle valve? They both look ok?

Just curious, where's the fuel actually coming out of the carb when it leaks?  Has it had water sitting in it, if so check the bowl hasn't got a hole in it. (rust).

Yeah, had one like this a few weeks ago.. ex fish farm, leaking from the bowl, but the main problem turned out to be the petrol tap which leaked and is also prone to be worn or gunged up by lack of use and or crap from the tank, cheers

Hard to tell exactly as it's only a fairly small amount, but looks like the top of the float bowl.

I know there's an O ring there, but assume the fuel level shouldn't be that high anyway?

Very rare to have to change a carb on a GX series to be honest.  They are normally pretty good.   Have had a few cases where someone has bolted the bowl back up without locating it properly, and as they've tightened it the bottom of the bowl gets bent up.  Then the top of the bowl doesn't reach the seal properly, and leaks.

Big thanks to everyone who replied

Fitted a new O ring on the float bowl and it all seems good now :D

£3.29 for the seal kit from Garden & Hire Spares
