portable winches?

  Hi everyone,

 I'm looking for the best capstan/chainsaw winch. I used Portable Winch 5000 (more powerful one)- I like that I can use rope of any length, power seems to be ok for what I need, but annoying thing was that the engine cuts out if the winch tips sideways. I know there are trays to attach to trees but I like flexibility of slings, where winch can move around with a line of pull.

 I keep on looking at Lewis Winch- I like the fact that it's light and my saw becomes a multitool, but I'm less impressed with fixed wire. Will it pull as well as capstan type winch?

 There are also: Simpson chainsaw winch- capstan on a chainsaw, sounds like ideal option but you have to press the trigger with 1 hand and pull the rope with the other. And Powerhouse Winch- Chinese version of Lewis, cheap and light but how good? Riko also has another one advertised on their website but I can't find any info, reviews about it.

 How would you compare Lewis to Portable Winch? Has anyone used Simpson, Powerhouse or Riko?

Hate these things swinging about all over the place which is why I made the one below. Staked to the ground with a four stoke engine on a reduction box, no drama and it runs all day.

  Eder Powerwinch looks cool but about £1000 above my budget

 It looks a solid machine. How heavy is it? Last time I had to use Portable Winch it was 20 minutes to carry it to the trees and another 20 to bring it back.

Not sure I’d want to carry a tirfor for 20 minutes let alone a portable winch

Does anyone know why the light-weight hand operated Lug-all winches with webbing, rather than steel cable, seem to be virtually unused in this country?

They seem like a really useful thing to carry in the back of a truck, for that occasional sticky situation, that you didn't bring the Tirfor for...

Only 7kg with 3 to 6m of cable and a 1 ton pull.

No idea why, but they are amazing at what they do. So light and quick to setup. Not much pull on them but ok if used correctly.

I have a cheap 4t Chinese one that lives the the truck. Had it for years hand can't break it. Not as good as a real lugall though.

You would not want to drop it on your foot but its not heavy, two lads can carry it but they tend to just throw it into a wheelbarrow with all the rest of the clobber.
