Do you buy your cordwood by the tonne or cu mtr?

As above does your  cordwood (2.5 mtr length  +) supplier , bill you per load  to you, by the "tonnage or the cu mtr " ,( cu mtr formula  allowing so much for air/ so much for actual wood per load) . I ask the question as the last two loads I have had delivered are by the , tonnage, rather than the old formula

of so many cu mtrs minus  x amount of air per artic load of cordwood for eventual processing.

Usually by the ton as most our hauliers have weigh heads now and the sales are done in tons. Obviously inconsistent with species/density but that's reflected in the price. 

 

Cubic metres would be better and we do keep an eye on how far up the bolsters it is but that has its own issues with bent and shorter logs bulking out loads.

this is a tricky one.  I buy in by the ton and sell by the cube which makes no sense.  But as gdh says buying in by the cube would only work out if it was all nicely stacked straight cord.

It’s around about £55p/t delivered for hardwood in our area currently. A wagon and drag load will give us anywhere from 40-50 cube of loose logs by the time they’re processed.

Timber hauliers will charge you by the ton, and it is then usual that log providers sell to joe bloggs by the cubic metre.

I buy and sell by the cubic metre. I normally buy complete stacks whihc can sit around for a while so tonnage sometimes means that the seller will be out of pocket, lets say with sycamore. My man driver knows how much he gets on a lorry and im happy with what he brings. I think' alot of buying anad selling is down to trust and good relationships!
