My splicing attempts

Looking good there. Learning on old rope is a seriously bad idea.

DB is a bit mind bending, but I find it easier than 16 strand, the final bury can be awkward depending on how tight the weave of the cover, try a nice loose rope first if you can, sailing type DBs are ideal, or rigging ropes.

Try to avoid the Blaze family until you have got the technique right and fancy a challenge!

Thanks mate. I know that now , almost put me off tbh. For anyone that reads this and wants to learn . . . . . buy some new flippin' rope !

Hmmm ok. Aren't some of the Marlow offerings supposed to be nice and baggy ? Ooo err

Bugger. I can get that from work for free. Oh well.

Cool , i'll give some of that a whirl. But may aswell have a bash at this silverstreak.

I've got a few questions for you more experienced splicers.

Whats the best way to work out the fid lengths etc ? For example 10mm silverstreak.

Is a fid length 14 x the diameter ? Short fid x 7 and long fid x 21 ? So i could make a measuring stick for the diameters as i'm using wire fids.

all i had, nice neat cover up, plus stops it slipping (bought un-glued wrap):blushing:

But PTFE is slippery init? The heatshrink stuff would probably grip the rope better without it. The heatshrink I've used over my west-country whipped ends doesn't budge at all, and that's not glued. And with your spliced eyes, the heatshrink won't slip over the eye as the eye is bigger that what it's shrunk down to, and it won't slip along the rope away from the eye as there aren't any forces there to make it do so.
