Sjb you should learn. I have been and I've caught the fever.

Been doing 3 strand a bit and got good at that. Been using the rope high scale (thanks mate!!) sent me and also bought some off honey bros. Tested my first one with a 250kg weight and there was no chance of it budging! Even though I cut out too much of the core at the end. It still worked fine. It has since fell apart but I've done a couple more with smaller eyes and they have both worked fine!

Here's a few pics

Well done on completing your frist double braidsplice mate. The 3rd one looks good mate:thumbup1:

Do you know what you did wrong on the first one as there seems to be alot of the core missing? It looks as though the crossover went a bit wrong? Hard to tell from a pic though! haha.

Keep up the good work,it gets very addictive:biggrin:

I couldn't understand where to cut the core before I milked it all together so pulled it really far through and cut it. Turns out that's what I shouldn't have done! You could pull the cross over back out the splice, but it was still strong. It actually fell apart when I was finishing the last one as its on the other end of that rope. I'm giving 16 strand a go tomorrow. Any tips for that?

Done a few 16 strand using yale xtc plus. I use 1mm fencing wire for a pulling fid tied down to something solid and find it fairly easy on new rope. Also just tried using a 4mm crochet hook for removing the core as suggested on another site. It seemed to work best for the first half of the strands but a little tricky getting the last ones.

Just take your time.

Being able to pull the splice apart isn't a bad thing as the splice works like a chinese finger trap. When its loaded there's no way it would move! Thats why the wippings there for when its not under load. THis only really appiles to rigging lines though as ppe lines are generally a knightmare to bury!!

As far as 16 strand goes, just make sure you dont catch any strands when doing the crossover and make sure you've got a good anchor to pull on. Also when doing the crossover as your about to pull the new core through trim a couple of the strands off so your not pulling so much mass through. Makes a big difference!

Made a full loop for on my harness struggled with the final bury. Couldn't quite get the crossover to sit inside the throat of the splice.

Had a go at 16 strand. What a nightmare! Got about at inch past where the core comes out after feeding the cover back in and it's so tight I can't even get my fid out. I use a tubular one. Is a wire one much better I'm guessing? Would love to do one of nods courses!
