My splicing attempts

Very interesting thread!

Last night I had the hare-brained idea to splice an eye into my *used* marlow climbing rope... BIG mistake!! 5 hours later I was in too much pain to pull the crossover out, blisters on blisters:cursing:

This morning I decided to pull the last couple of inches through. Im only using a piece of general gardening wire which I doubt I could stress too much, don't fancy snapping it and starting over!!

Ordered some piano wire off ebay so next time it'll be easier and i'll use new rope.

There is only about 3/4" left to do now so i'll stop moaning and go get it done:thumbup1:

I would not splice used rope for myself

I have done it for mates but always seem to regret it but keep doing them.

Post pics? What of the used Marlow Gecko eye splice? Bob, I gave up on it, I couldn't even get the core out of the stuff.

Is it possible to splice a braided rope back on its self in order to make an endless loop than would run through pulleys?

If you mean an end to end splice on double braid rope bro, yes it is. There remains a small lump where it joins but still sweet to run through a pulley. I've seen some access lines joined up to extends length that ran through ascenders fine.

Suffering now though, every part of both hands are blistered lol

 

 

 

And the tripod used to hang off trying to do the crossover lol
