whilst i appreciate the post quotes 'East Kent' im looking for more information; im from the 'south of england' im sure if i was asking yourselves for a quote you would appreciate a specific area?????????

For those of you with a mill, how much would you offer for an oak but like the one on the right? I would normally offer £50 if it was reasonably local. I normally buy direct from the landowner, who tells me it is worth more for firewood. I then describe how much work is involved in collecting it ,then milling , stacking and drying it. There will be at least 50% wastage, it may be full of nails and shakes. I then say would it not be better to have their 200 year old oak turned into a bit of fine furniture rather than end up on someones logburner. We normally manage do do a deal.

Recently I went mad and offered £100 for an exceptionally good butt, I await to hear back from the farmer.

with oak making up to £7 a hoppus or around £180metric tonne i can see why he hasnt bit ur hand off

I'd offer £75 per butt if they could be loaded onto trailer - looks good oak with no knots and very straight and even, but it's too far away for me....

 

Yes it is worth more as firewood - but remember you still have to saw it, split it, season it, sell it - in order to get that money.

For top quality delivered yes, but more like 1/3 of that when its two logs which are on the ground in a yard.

I've been offered 2 Oak trees and one big fallen Oak trunk for nothing!! Just got to go and cut them up when the weather clears!!
