Can anyone advise what consensus is for the best / most popular tailored system for tree survey data collection etc

In what area do you want to use it - trying to narrow the field a bit. Something that the LA use might not be the best thing if you're doing a 5837 survey etc.

Pretty much a full mix I.e highways tree safety surveys, education sites, parks and as you say B.S. 5837 . Open to cost

Sorry Tim, definitely outside of my experience. I'm only setting up/set up for 5837s, the LA stuff is a lot more extensive/larger scale and I'm not even sure how you'd import/set up for a development site.

Go online Tim and search- its even possible to make one up from all the online tools available - then you get what you need ( I did ) as long as you know what yr client needs , it is much easier than struggling with some of the over priced rubbish out there . K

In my experience so far there is no single setup that will do everything that you want - I’m still looking for it!

 

GPS/GIS based systems are great for tree surveys other than BS5837 surveys which are based on topographical plans and need to be presented to clients in common CAD formats. 

 

We use a GIS collector system for tree condition surveys but a CAD based app and spreadsheets for BS5837.

I’m looking at getting a Panasonic toughpad and using arb evolve. I joined the key Tree webinar on Friday, I wasn’t very impressed with it really as the plans that it creates look basic and the survey schedule can’t be modified.

On an iPad mate. It’s a simple free CAD app called DWG Fastview.
